Capsulejay has been instrumental in helping the Community Game-Along push forward and beyond after Anne stepped away from running the event at the end of 2019 (so PLEASE don't give me all the credit everyone else, I couldn't have run half of this without his help and second opinions). He is a dedicated writer and streamer whose an integral part of Geek to Geek Media. Through his articles, his streams, or through his involvement here, you might discover something brand new to add or wishlist in your libraries.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Hi, I'm Capsulejay. I'm a retro/indie/variety streamer and writer. In addition to being a lifelong gamer, I'm also passionate about anime, running, animals, and building model kits!
How did you get into video games?
I was introduced to video games by my grandmother. She was a big fan of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and taught me how to play at the age of 3! I've been addicted ever since.
What is your criteria for a good/memorable video game?
First and foremost the gameplay has to *feel* good. After that, it needs killer music. While music can't make a bad game good, it can definitely make a good game great.
How did you discover the Community Game-Along?
I've been reading Apricot's "Chic Pixel" blog for over a decade. The Game-Along hashtags on Twitter (RIP Twitter) intrigued me and eventually inspired me to begin incorporating Game-Along themes into my own content.
Are there any games or game genres that you don't think you would have discovered without the Community Game-Along?
Two genres that are on very extreme ends of the spectrum: Visual novels and shmups. In the case of VNs, I played a few bootlegged ones back in the late 90s but had almost completely forgotten about the genre since then. Getting involved in Community Game-Alongs pulled me back into the genre and developed my appreciation of modern VNs. In the case of shmups, this is a genre I've dabbled in casually but never really dug into deeply. After a few Shmuptembers, I've become a real bullet hell connoisseur.
Four video games you would most recommend people play?
This is really tough, so I'm going to limit my recommendations to games I discovered via the Community Game-Along:
-
Crimzon Clover - This a great intro to bullet hell games and was the first game I played on my first Shmuptember.
-
Ys The Oath in Felghana - Of all the games in Falcom's iconic Ys RPG series, this one is a great showcase of what the series has to offer in a tight 12-hour package.
-
Battle Chef Brigade - Who could have guessed that cooking, action combat, & match-3 puzzle gameplay worked together so well? Battle Chef Brigade also offers a fun story and characters. It was easily my most pleasant Game-Along surprise.
-
Heart of the Woods - This may be my all-time favorite visual novel. It offers a great combination of supernatural mystery and queer romance.
Any final thoughts for the Community Game-Along?
My favorite thing about the Community Game-Along is how it inspires people to try new things and broaden their gaming tastes. Participating has really grown my appreciation for the full breadth of the video game medium.
